Rilke’s Poem “The Swan”
ByThe Swan by Rainer Maria Rilke is the poem which David Whyte uses in his Midlife CD set.
David’s reading as well as how he brings it into his own life and consequently mine have stirred and given words to where I now find myself. This first paragraph of the poem says it all–well almost.
“This laboring through what is still undone,
as though, legs bound, we hobbled along the way, is like the awkward walking of the swan…” Translated by Stephen Mitchell
And in my search for Rilke poems I found a site that has the written piece that I shared in one of my first posts about what Brother David told Whyte regarding exhaustion and whole-heartedness. That is going to be my next post.
